Life Transitions

Big changes can shake your footing, even the ones you wanted. A move, a new job, becoming a parent, an empty nest, a divorce, retirement, a diagnosis, or losing someone close can all change how you see yourself and how you relate to the people around you.

Transitions often bring mixed feelings, like excitement and grief, or relief and fear. Making sense of those feelings is part of getting your footing back.

What it can look like

  • A recent change has left you unsettled or lost
  • You’re grieving something even though the change was good
  • Your role in your family or relationship has shifted
  • You’re moving between cultures, languages, or countries
  • A new diagnosis or health change is reshaping daily life
  • You’re facing a big decision and feel stuck

How we work on it

We look at what the transition has changed for you: your routines, your sense of who you are, and your relationships. Changes rarely happen to just one person, so we also look at how the people around you are responding.

Using an emotionally focused approach, we make room for the mixed feelings and losses that come with change, including ones that are hard to name. Then we work on what you want life to look like from here, and the support you need to get there.

Approaches we use

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Systemic family therapy
