Anxiety

Anxiety can look like constant worry, a racing mind at night, tension in your body, or a need to keep everything under control. It shows up in relationships too: overthinking a text, needing reassurance, avoiding conflict, or staying busy so you don’t have to feel.

Anxiety starts to make sense once you understand what it’s trying to protect you from. Often it’s tied to relationships and experiences that taught you to stay on alert.

What it can look like

  • Worry that’s hard to turn off
  • Trouble sleeping or relaxing
  • Needing reassurance from a partner or family
  • Avoiding conflict, even when something matters to you
  • Feeling responsible for everyone else’s feelings
  • Physical signs like tension, stomach trouble, or a racing heart

How we work on it

We start by understanding your anxiety: when it shows up, what sets it off, and what it’s trying to do for you. We also look at how it plays out with the people closest to you, and how their responses calm it or add to it.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, we slow down anxious moments to reach the feelings and needs underneath. Alongside that, we practice concrete ways to calm your body and mind, and to ask for support in ways that work.

Approaches we use

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Systemic family therapy
