Depression

Depression can feel like heaviness, numbness, or a tiredness that sleep doesn’t fix. Things you used to enjoy stop feeling worth the effort. You might pull away from people, or feel alone even when they’re around.

When you’re depressed, it’s common to pull away from people. But that distance can leave you feeling even more alone, which makes the low mood heavier. Therapy helps with both: how you’re feeling, and how connected you feel to the people in your life.

What it can look like

  • Feeling down, empty, or numb most days
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Low energy, or changes in sleep or appetite
  • Pulling away from friends, family, or a partner
  • Harsh self-criticism or feeling like a burden
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions

How we work on it

We look at what’s weighing on you, including losses, stress, and relationship strain that may be feeding the depression. With an emotionally focused approach, we make room for feelings that have been pushed down, with the patience that depression tends to take away.

We also focus on connection: rebuilding the relationships and routines that support you, and finding ways to let the people close to you help.

If it could help, we can talk about whether a medical evaluation or a medication consultation makes sense alongside therapy, and, with your permission, coordinate with your doctor or other providers.

If you’re having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out right away: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911 in an emergency.

Approaches we use

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Systemic family therapy
