Couples Therapy

Premarital Counseling

Premarital counseling isn’t only for couples who are worried. It’s a chance to understand how you each react under stress while things are still good, so conflict later feels familiar instead of frightening.

Every couple has a cycle: a predictable pattern that shows up when one of you feels hurt or disconnected. Knowing yours ahead of time is one of the most useful things you can bring into a marriage.

What it can look like

  • You’re engaged or planning to marry and want a strong start
  • You’ve noticed the same argument coming up more than once
  • You come from different families, cultures, or faiths and want to talk through expectations
  • One or both of you carries hurt from a past relationship
  • You want support talking about money, family, children, and roles

How we work on it

We use Emotionally Focused Therapy to walk through real hard moments step by step: what triggers them, the emotion that comes up, the meaning you make of it, how you each protect yourselves, and how to work through it together as a couple.

Walking through real moments this way, you learn to recognize each other’s triggers and protective moves, and to see the cycle as something you face together rather than something one of you causes.

We also make room for practical conversations about money, extended family, faith, children, and roles, grounded in what you’ve learned about each other’s needs.

Approaches we use
